The Union Save Romania (USR) gave Wednesday, June 11, the official start of the internal elections to designate a new president of the formation, after the resignation of Elena Lasconi from the front of the party, registered in early May. The vote, which takes place online, through a secure electronic platform, is open to all party members, according to the statutory provisions.
Nine candidates were validated in the domestic race for the USR management, after 12 members expressed their intention to run. The party’s electoral commission approved only those candidates who have complied with the criteria and documentation imposed by the internal procedure.
Among the nine candidates are both known names in the Romanian political space, as well as active members from the county branches and in the diaspora. Favorite seems to be the current interim leader of the party, Dominic Fritz, the mayor of Timisoara, but the race is also open for Senator Violeta Alexandru, former Minister of Labor and current member of the USR Sector 5.
The full list of validated candidates is as follows:

* Mihai Mihăilă – USR Bacău
* Luiza Elena Oancea – USR UK

The official validation of the new president of the USR will be done during the party congress, scheduled for June 21.
