From the subsidies for the current year, the political formations must receive a total, by the end of the year, 284 million lei. So far, including in September, political parties have spent most of the money on the press and propaganda. Specifically, 92 million lei spent the political formations in this chapter, according to an expert forum ranking, ie 53% of the money spent. The second largest amount, 18 million lei, ie 10%, gave the parties at personnel expenses, and 12 million lei, ie 7%, went to the expenses of movable and immovable goods.
Subsidies of 154 million lei. Expenses of 173 million lei
According to AEP reports for the first 8 months of the year, the largest amount was received by the PSD, a party to which almost 52 million lei reached. In the second place there is gold, with over 30 million lei, followed by PNL with just over 28 million lei and USR, with almost 20 million lei. SOS obtained just over 13 million lei, and I can receive over 10 million lei in total. The strength of the right and the People’s Movement Party received under a million lei.
The total of the money received from the subsidies for the first eight months amounts to just over 154 million lei, shows the AEP reports. However, the expenses of the formations reach a higher amount.
PSD had over the first 8 months of the year expenditure of over 75 million lei, gold spent almost 31 million lei, and PNL 24.5 million lei. And the USR spent over 24 million lei, and SOS and they can exceed 9.3 million lei. The total of the expenses of the political parties thus amounts to 173 million lei.
169 million lei in addition
Now, at the budget rectification, the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) would receive an additional 169 million lei. The money is allocated “In order to ensure the necessary funds for the reimbursement of the electoral expenses in the campaign for the President of Romania from 2025”specifies the note of substantiation of the project.
Thus, the total amount allocated to the political parties for 2025 will reach 685 million lei, the law of the budget for 2025 initially allocating 517 million lei for parties.
What does the 2026 cuts look like
The reduction of the budgetary expenses will reach the parties only in 2026, when the subsidies are cut by 40%, but related to the year 2024, a year with four rows of elections. In 2024, the parties received a record amount of 386 million lei. Comparatively, in 2023, a non -electoral year, the amount for parties amounted to 231.8 million lei.
Following a GEO issued by the Ciolacu Government, the parties also received refunds for the money from subsidies spent at the presidential elections canceled last year, and AEP requested the return of money. In context, PNL sued AEP, refusing to return 14 million lei. The same method used gold. USR returned the money, and the PSD did not use subsidies.
