The place where traffic rules confuse tourists: you drive both on the right and on the left

In a South American country there is an unusual road situation in the world where drivers do not follow a single traffic rule on all roads. Depending on the road they are on, they drive either on the right or left side of the road.

It is the North Yungas Road, also known as the “Death Road”, a route that has become internationally famous both for its difficult conditions and for the unusual way in which traffic is organized, according to Click!.

The place is little known to the general public, but those who have traveled it describe it as one of the most dangerous roads in the world. The road is dug directly into the mountain, is very narrow, and along many sections there are no protective barriers, making it extremely difficult to cross safely.

On this route, the traffic rules differ from the rest of the country. Although in Bolivia you normally drive on the right side of the road, on the “Road of Death” you drive on the left side, an exception imposed for safety reasons.

The authorities took this decision so that drivers can have better visibility of the wheels and the distance to the side of the road, in a context where the road is extremely narrow and exposed to dangerous conditions.

Even in these conditions, the route remains a very risky one. The road is known worldwide as one of the most dangerous, and accidents continue to occur despite special traffic rules and efforts to increase safety.
