“Simone Antonescu's books refresh, through a modern writing, the bestseller with a historical theme. A tense epic, tasty period descriptions, characters with a mythological halo. This time, the author rehabilitates Mrs. Chiajna, the most important female personality of the Romanian Middle Ages. The author brings her historical character close to our understanding through a meticulous evocation of the mentalities of a time when the political struggle, meaning corruption and intrigue, ended with the extermination of the opponent. The reference to the Musatini family and to the grandfather Ștefan the Great explains the stormy temperament and dynastic pride of Chiajna, who, through diplomatic intelligence and bravery on the battlefield, keeps up with the competitors for the throne of Wallachia. A book full of charm, with merchant women peddling expensive goods and secret information, with wandering rulers when they manage to escape beheading or poison, with loves without a future, because marriages only serve alliances.” (Gabriela Adamesteanu)
