The Romanian Police has sent a series of recommendations for the movement of vehicles in snowy and icy conditions and reminds of the obligation to equip with special tires for the cold season.
“CAREFUL! For traveling on road surfaces covered with ice, ice or snow, road legislation stipulates the obligation to equip vehicles with winter tires! It is important to follow this rule for our safety and that of other road users”, transmitted, on Sunday, the Romanian Police, on the Facebook page.
At the same time, the traffic policemen from several counties of the country have made recommendations for this period, in the conditions in which the meteorologists announce the sharp cooling of the weather, precipitation in several areas of the country and snow in the mountain areas.
In order to prevent road accidents, the police recommend drivers to show increased caution at the wheel, to increase the walking distance and not to engage in risky maneuvers in traffic.
What fine do drivers risk if they don’t have winter tires
The penalties for those caught driving on public roads covered in snow, ice or ice but without winter tires are quite harsh.
The penalty is between 9 and 20 fine points, i.e. between 1485 lei and 3300 lei. In addition, the police can also detain the car registration certificate, without which the drivers cannot drive the respective cars.
The certificate is returned only when proof of the remedy of the problem for which it was retained, in this case the installation of winter tires, is provided. In addition, if a driver is involved in a car accident and the car he was driving did not have winter tires and the road was covered with snow or ice, he will not be able to receive those compensations guaranteed by the car insurance.
