The Minister of Education, Ligia Deca, confirmed on Monday, in Alba Iulia, that for the next school year the organization of modules will be maintained, alternating with short vacation periods. The decision comes as a result of a positive evaluation of the perception of teachers, students and parents on this structure.

Asked about the possibility of reintroducing theses, Ligia Deca explained that this topic was not addressed in the ministerial discussions.
“We didn't have a discussion about reintroducing theses”the minister pointed out, adding that the mock national exams were scheduled earlier this year to allow the results to be used in the preparation process for the final exams.
The structural changes in the education system, introduced starting with the 2022-2023 school year, brought about the transition to module organization, replacing the traditional semester system. Theses are no longer mandatory, and students receive only one average per year for each subject.
This change was supported by the former Minister of Education, Sorin Cîmpeanu, and aims to adapt the school structure to the current needs and demands of students and society.
“No connection was observed between the structure of the school year and the results. Furthermore, an evaluation of the perception of teachers, students, and parents regarding the structure of the school year was carried out, a study that showed that there is a positive perception of the alternation of periods of academic effort with shorter periods of vacation. Therefore, the structure of the next school year remains on this structure of modules”said Ligia Deca
While reforms continue to redefine the educational landscape, the structure of the school year for 2024-2025 will remain consistent with this organizational model.
Courses run across five distinct modules, each followed by holiday periods, while theses are replaced by more flexible assessments.
