The first trailer for the SkyShowtime Original Series, The Tattooist of Auschwitz, an adaptation of the book of the same name, has been released.
All episodes will be available to watch exclusively on SkyShowtime from June 7. The six-part series, based on the international bestseller by Heather Morris, is inspired by the true story of Lali and Gita Sokolov, who met while prisoners in the Auschwitz concentration camp during the Holocaust in WWII.
The first images, powerfully emotional, present Lali (Harvey Keitel) at an advanced age, recounting to Heather Morris (Melanie Lynskey) his experience during his time in Auschwitz, images that take us with him, through his memories since that time. Furthermore, the first trailer also features young Lali (Jonah Hauer-King) as he meets and falls in love with Gita (Anna Próchniak).
The trailer features a moving original score by multiple Oscar® winner Hans Zimmer who, along with Kara Talve, composed the series' soundtrack.
The Tattooist of Auschwitz is the story of Lali (Jonah Hauer-King), a Slovak Jew who was deported to Auschwitz in 1942, the concentration camp where millions of Jews were killed during the Holocaust.
Shortly after arriving, he was assigned to the Tattooists, tasked with printing identification numbers on the arms of fellow prisoners. One day, he meets Gita (Próchniak) while tattooing her incarceration number on his arm, and the two fall in love, despite the horrors that surround them. Thus begins a brave and memorable love story. Under the constant watch of an unstable Nazi SS officer, Stefan Baretzki (Jonas Nay), Lali and Gita are determined to keep each other alive.
60 years later, Lali (Keitel), now in her 80s, meets Heather Morris (Lynskey), an up-and-coming writer. Recently widowed, Lali finds the courage to tell the world his story. As he reveals his past to Heather, Lali confronts the traumatic ghosts of his youth and relives the memories of love in one of the most terrifying places in the world.
