Tudose, about the version of Iohannis's proposal to head NATO: It would be honorable for Romania

Mihai Tudose, former prime minister and current vice-president of the PSD, claims that it would be “honouring” for our country if President Klaus Iohannis were to become the head of NATO, and there is no question that his party and the Government would not support such an approach.

“Obviously we will support a Romanian there“, declared Mihai Tudose, coordinator of the PSD campaign for the European Parliament, who emphasized that it would be “uin an amazing moment” for a Romanian to reach a top position at the international level. Moreover, Tudose repeated that there is no question that the PSD and the Government would not support a person who would aim for a position such as that of Secretary General of NATO.

On the other hand, Mihai Tudose denied the fact that any document regarding the nomination of Iohannis for the head of NATO would have left the Government so far.

The Romanian government did not send any paper. That's not how it's done. First it is discussed in a narrow framework“, said the PSD MEP.

Then, Mihai Tudpse pointed out: “Maybe someone who discussed in a limited setting had the impression that it was decided that Mr. Iohannis should be, which would not be bad at all, it would be honorable for Romania“.

Ciolacu's specifications about functions

And Marcel Ciolacu also positioned himself on the same line: “If you want my opinion – I would be proud as a Romanian for the president of Romania to hold a high-level political position, as I would be proud for any Romanian“. The Prime Minister emphasized that, being a PNL-PSD agreement, the negotiating power is greater and he also talked about the possibility of a “Euro-Atlantic” function: “We will have double bargaining power in both political families. These are pluses. Romanians want a strong, Romanian voice in European and Euro-Atlantic structures
