In a video titled “Normal things from Romania that put me in a coma”, posted on Tiktok, a Frenchman lists some things that have seemed bizarre to him in the few months since he has been living in Romania.

Clement, a young Frenchman who came to Romania to study, posted on Tik Tok some impressions after the first months spent in our country. The student listed things that he found strange and that he did not expect to experience.
Old and strange elevators
Clement is afraid of elevators, and the experience in Romania only amplified this fear.
“I was already afraid of elevators before I came to Romania. Here the old elevators are very strange and I'm afraid of them. Now I live in a new block and it's better. At first, I was terrified of the old elevators,” says the young man.
Romanian politeness
What left the French student unmasked is the lack of politeness he ran into in certain situations.
“Politeness in France and politeness in Romania are two totally different things. For example, in France if you don't say “hello”, “thank you” or “goodbye” at the store, you are the most uneducated person in the world. In Romania, when I said “hello” to the cashier, she didn't answer me or looked at me angrily. At first, I thought I was doing something wrong, but I learned that when it comes to politeness, we have different visions”the young man believes.
Romanian drivers, be more careful with pedestrians
Clement also had a comment related to the behavior of Romanian drivers. Although Romania ranks second in Europe in terms of road accidents, the student wanted to note the attention that drivers pay to pedestrians and pedestrian crossings.
“Drivers are very careful about pedestrians and pedestrian crossings. In Romania, pedestrians are a priority, in France not so much”,
Clement explained.
The “basic” products that he cannot find in Romania
The student was also amazed by the fact that several products considered basic in France cannot be found in Romanian markets and supermarkets.
“Here I will talk about the products in the store. Until I came to Romania, I thought there were some basic products that were the same all over the world. In Romania, I don't really find what I used to find in France, especially certain fish and beef products. Here I can't even find brioche bread, a bread used for breakfast in France. If you know where I can find such a product, please let me know!”, is Clement's call.
