A small town in Spain became the center of attention overnight after hitting the famous Christmas Lottery.
La Baneza, a town in the province of León, was one of the big winners of the huge prize of 468 million euros, and the news brought joy to the whole community.
The lucky ticket was bought by the city’s football club, who distributed it to team members, supporters and several local merchants. Thus, a large part of the amount went directly to the city’s residents, who number approximately 11,000 people, according to sportal.gr.
Mayor Javier Carrera confirmed that this initiative meant that the money was distributed widely, giving a real economic boost to the area after a difficult year.
The benefits can already be seen in sports
The team from La Baneza, in the first regional division B of Castilla y León and just two points off the leaders, now have a real chance to fight for promotion to the fifth tier.
“We will buy Vinicius!”
The celebration continued at the La Llanada stadium, where the president of the club, Gonzalo Prieto, was greeted with applause. He announced that the funds will be used to improve the team, but also for the city, recently affected by economic problems.
“If Vinicius is unhappy at Real, we will buy him!”Prieto transmitted, in the spirit of a joke.
He explained that the money won will be divided between the club’s management, the technical staff, the players and the residents of the city.
