Traian Băsescu claims that if Nicolae Ciucă, Marcel Ciolacu and Mircea Geoană are the options for the presidential elections, he will not vote. The former president believes that the liberals would have better chances if they went to the presidential elections with Emil Boc than with Nicolae Ciucă.
“If there isn't an earthquake after the locals, it will probably be Ciolacu and General Ciucă, although I don't trust it, Romania has been led by generals before, it had the Revolution in which the generals were pushed to the hilt, it had in the Second War World with a general in charge, so the generals had better sit down and leave politics to the politicians. (…)To sit and eat their special pensions and leave politics to the politicians. (…) I think that the liberals also have the Emil Boc version, which is much better in the polls, if they want to see the Firea lesson repeated, they should try with Ciucă and not with Emil Boc. To hire a party man to mobilize the party. (…)I would look at people with political performance in PSD or PNL. My view is that they have the candidate and are bypassing him. If Iohannis still keeps the PNL under control and wants Ciucă, Ciucă will fi”, said Traian Băsescu to Digi24.
The situation of Mircea Geoană
The former president of Romania is convinced that Mircea Geoană will run for the presidency, but believes that without a party behind him he will not win.
“He does not have the party machine and will not enter the 2nd round. (…)I beat Mircea Geoană twice. Once at the Capital City Hall, once at the presidential elections, I know the story of how the elections were stolen from him in 2009, which is repeated by all those who were against me. (..) I beat Geoana as soon as I caught him. It was a mistake that after I beat him in the Capital, he also entered the presidential race against me. I would not bring as an argument the important position at NATO until I had the certainty that the Romanian state was proposed. I don't know who proposed it, but I didn't propose it. I don't think it was proposed by an institution of the Romanian state“, said the former head of state.
