The university started the match very well and authoritatively dominated the first ten minutes, having a goal through Alexandru Creţu (3) and a goal scored by Ştefan Baiaram (7), with a header from Lyes Houri's cross.
FC Voluntari then came out and gave the team coached by Ivailo Petev quite a lot of problems, without having any goal opportunities, however.
In the second half, a blunder committed by Nicuşor Bancu led to the awarding of a penalty for the guests, for the goalkeeper Laurenţiu Popescu's foul on Andrei Dumiter, and Robert Popescu (54) restored the tie. The guests also had good chances to score through Dumiter (61, 78), but the first time Vladimir Screciu acrobatically rejected, and then Laurentiu Popescu defended.
At the other goal, Alexandru Mitriţă was blocked by goalkeeper Jesus Fernandez (76).
The winning goal for the Craiova team was scored by Honduran Denil Maldonado (84), from Mitriţă's cross. Maldonado, with his first goal for the team from Bănie, had been inspired by Petev two minutes earlier.
The university went through great emotions at the end (90+7), after the referee Adrian Cojocaru awarded a penalty in favor of the guests in a duel between the goalkeeper Laurenţiu Popescu and Nicolae Carnat, but returned to the decision after referring the video referee and watching the replays.
Spanish striker Jalen Blesa also made his debut at the University on this occasion. The university is undefeated for four rounds, in which it has two wins and two draws. The university was coming after four matches without a win at home (two draws, two failures). FC Voluntari reached eight consecutive stages without a win, three draws and five failures. In the round, the score was equal, 0-0.
