“The United States decision to postpone the lifting of visas for Romanians is unfair. The Romanian people deserve to go without visas in the US, to visit their relatives, to visit the country, to work as they do all over the world.” Ponta said in a video posted on Facebook.
He promised that if he wins the elections, he will go straight to Washington to negotiate with the US Administration:
“I guarantee you, as president of Romania, that I will go and solve this problem directly with President Donald Trump and his team. It is true that foreign policy is now more difficult than before. We need experience and we need leaders to share American values. I guarantee that Romanians will go without visas in the United States ”, Ponta mentioned.
Victor Ponta’s statements come in the context in which the US government has announced the temporary suspension of Romania’s integration process in the Visa Waiver program, invoking the need for a re -evaluation of strict security requirements.
During this analysis, the US authorities decided to stop the implementation of the electronic travel authorization system (ESTA) for Romanian citizens, according to the US Department for Internal Security.
Until the completion of this process, Romanians who want to travel to the US for tourist or business purposes are advised to continue applying for “B” type visas or US consulates.
