“During the entire period in which I was active in politics, I had common values with all my colleagues from USR. I consider USR the only reforming political force that can oppose the current PSD-PNL coalition, a coalition incapable of making the reforms that Romania needs. PSD and PNL are themselves unreformed, so they have no way of proposing correct measures that Romania clearly needs. There is no more time to lose and as such I preferred to join USR and get to work with the team, as long as I saw my political project in close connection with the objectives for which the Save Romania Union is fighting”said Violeta Alexandru.
USR president, Elena Lasconi, welcomed the decision and declared that the coming of Violeta Alexandru to the party is “a great gain”.
“USR means a team of people who want to change this country for the better, to stop being a country impoverished by all kinds of political opportunists. Violeta is a professional, a man who has proven that he can perform, move a system frozen in decades of bad decisions. It is a win for the entire USR team that Violeta will work alongside us so that those who work honestly in this country are respected and receive what they deserve, especially at this time when we see that PSD has created chaos in the pension system and payroll!”said the president of USR, Elena Lasconi.
Violeta Alexandru is 48 years old and is currently a member of the Romanian Parliament, a member of the Commission for Human Rights. She specializes in public policy, with a master’s degree in Governance and Institutional Development.
She was in government twice: Minister for Public Consultation and Social Dialogue (2016/2017) and Minister of Labor and Social Protection (2019/2020).
