The Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, states that she is not resigning following the scandal regarding the interruption of drinking water supply in localities in Prahova and Dâmboviţa counties, she shows that the responsibility does not lie with the ministry, but with institutions at the local level.
“Should I give up the reforms I made because someone in Parliament or because Mr. Zamfir (PSD senator Daniel Zamfir – no), who asks me to resign every week, asked me to resign this week as well? No! If there is a fault – and certainly no one is perfect, I am not perfect, we also make mistakes – but in this case there is no trace of a mistake on the part of the Ministry of the Environment and the reason why there is not is because, in reality, these works had to be managed entirely locally”, said Diana Buzoianu, on Thursday evening, at Digi 24.
Also, when asked if she would not demand the resignation of the minister, if he were an opposition parliamentarian, considering the situation created in Prahova, Buzoianu answered: “Exactly for what?”.
“We are here, but we are here precisely because these institutions have not functioned for years. I am the first to come and say: this company is a sinecure, it must be abolished. I was the first to come and say about a bunch of problems that have been hidden under the rug for the last tens of years. So the reality is that this corruption, which existed and still exists in environmental institutions, will rumble in many ways. We must understand that (…) the reforms that we have started and a significant part of them will not be able to cover 35 years of neglect. If I were a member of parliament, I would make sure that justice is done with the authorities that need to be answered, because the people need real reforms that will be implemented. No you can erase, I repeat, in a few months 35 years of carelessness. But let’s look at how many things we have revealed in these months, let’s realize that the reforms have begun”added Diana Buzoianu.
The minister explained that one of the institutions he considers responsible for the water crisis in Prahova, Exploatare Sistem Zonal Prahova, was created to ensure some water supplies, Buzoianu pointing out that in other counties there is no need for more operators to supply water, as is the case in Prahova, where residents pay one of the highest rates for this utility.
“This company (Explotare Sistem Zonal Prahova – no) seems to me to have been created in 2006 and it is very clear, if we look at who has been in charge of it over time, that it was created as a system to have a few more functions for some political people. People do not need that. Throughout this country, water is treated and reaches people through a single operator, that it is private, that it is owned by the County Council or the Local Council. They well, only two operators are needed here in Prahova. It is a very honest and honest question at the national level. Prahova is one of the reasons for paying the highest prices for water.”said Diana Buzoianu.
