The former Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, responded harshly to Vlad Voiculescu, after the USR leader declared that he “can no longer turn on the TV” without seeing Rogobete talking about the problems in the health system and the medical staff.
In a post published on Saturday evening, July 25, Rogobete states that he will continue to defend doctors and employees in the health system and accuses the former Minister of Health of misinforming the public.
“Vlad Voiculescu complains to the press that he can no longer turn on the TV because he sees me “crying for the medical staff”. Well, yes! What would you like me to cry for your mercy? Disinformation must be combated from the first moment. Perhaps the experts who coordinate the working group to combat disinformation from the Government can explain to us how propaganda reconciles with reality.” Alexandru Rogobete sent.
The former minister says that the defense of medical personnel was a constant of his activity, both as secretary of state and during the period in which he led the Ministry of Health.
“Yes, I am fighting for medical staff. For doctors, nurses, nurses, physiotherapists, biologists, biochemists, chemists, psychologists, pharmacists, engineers, support and administrative staff. And not just today. I did it as Secretary of State, I did it as a minister and I will do it whenever the need arises.”
Alexandru Rogobete recalls that, in January, he opposed Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan’s intention to reduce the medical staff’s income by 10%.
“I said then that you can’t ask people to keep an entire system alive and, at the same time, punish them financially. I had the same position then and I still have it today. Meanwhile, former minister Vlad Voiculescu, the minister with zero results for the people, says he can no longer turn on the TV because he sees me too often defending the medical system”he wrote.
In the same message, the former minister presented the measures he considers important for the health system in recent years.
According to him, in 2023 memoranda were approved that allowed the occupation of approximately 4,000 positions in the units of the Ministry of Health and in local administration hospitals. In 2024, the Government would have unlocked over 7,600 positions in the health system, and through GEO no. 19/2024 the incomes of the medical staff were increased, on average, by about 20%, especially for nurses and TESA staff.
Rogobete also commented on the criticism regarding the fact that, in some hospitals, over 90% of the budget is spent on salaries: “Correct. But why is this happening? Because the rates that CNAS pays hospitals with have essentially stayed where they were almost a decade ago. During that time, the costs of energy, drugs, sanitary materials, supplies, inflation, exchange rates and taxes have all exploded. The hospital is collecting money calculated at almost 2016 levels and paying bills at 2026 prices. That’s the real problem.”
At the end of the message, the former minister called for empathy and argued that investments in the medical system should not be viewed only through the prism of budget figures: “Imagine you have a serious accident one night. You get to the hospital and find out that there is no anesthesiologist on call because he has gone to France, where he is respected, better paid and has better working conditions. At that moment you will understand that health is not a chapter in an accounting Excel. It is the difference between life and death. And I will continue to fight for those who, every day and every night, fight for our lives.”
