A holiday in the Bulgarian resort of Golden Sands turned into a nightmare for a Romanian family, after one of the family members woke up with 31 bites all over his body after the first night’s stay. The family claims they later discovered bedbugs in one of the rooms.
The experience was reported on a Facebook group dedicated to Romanians traveling to Bulgaria, where one of the family members warned other tourists to avoid the accommodation.
“I’ve just left Golden Sands – Hotel Bonita. Run away from this hotel! I woke up with 31 bites all over my body the first day. I blamed it on the mosquitoes and the fact that I slept with the balcony door open.” the Romanian wrote.
The situation worsened after the second night’s stay. The tourist says the number of bites has increased and he discovered what he claims were bed bugs in the room. “After the second night I woke up with more bites. What did I discover? Bed bugs. I panicked reading about them on the internet”he reported.
The family went to the reception, and the hotel representatives provided them with another room. To avoid the spread of insects, all things were put in bags. “In short, we went to the reception, we were given a new room. We put everything in bags. Everything! Except for the phone and the bathing suit I had. We went and dressed as “kings” from the stalls”, the Romanian told.
The tourist also says that the hotel representatives offered to wash the family’s clothes at high temperature. “They offered to wash our clothes as they should in these cases (60 degrees)”, he wrote.
On departure, however, the tourist says that the clothes were returned put together and that some of them had faded. “Now, when we left, they brought us the bags with the washed clothes. They put them in a pile. Everything we had white turned into a ‘wonderful’ color… so everything in the trash. We got really angry and asked to speak to the hotel manager. The answer? Let’s be happy that they don’t sue us because we brought the bed bugs and compromised two of their rooms!”, claimed the Romanian.
At the end of the post, the tourist states that his family had booked three rooms and claims that the insects were discovered in only one.
“We had three rooms. Only one with these bed bugs, adults, coming out from under the mattress, from behind the headboard. So the story is not new…..eggs, larvae….Everyone’s leave is gone, I am effectively “painted” all over my body, clothes in the trash. Only my sandals full of rhinestones shine. Mine has become the “boss”. It says on the T-shirt. So VIDA BONITA!!!”, concluded the tourist ironically.
