The National Phytosanitary Authority (ANF) has started control actions to determine pesticide residues in fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits. Romanian watermelon is also on the list of targeted foods, reports Agerpres.
Until August 31 this year, the number of samples that will be checked will be increased by 102, reaching a total of 186 samples of melons taken, announced the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
“Following the “Cireaşa şi Căpșuna” action carried out between May 30 and July 5, ANF will start a new thematic control operation called “Romanian Watermelons”, which will take place between July 8 and August 31. The number of samples taken through the Program National Monitoring (84 samples) will be supplemented by 102, reaching a total of 186 samples of melons taken, and the samples will be collected both from the Bucharest markets and from each county seat, in order to analyze them”the ministry said in a statement.
As part of the National Program for Monitoring Pesticide Residues in Fruits and Vegetables for 2024, ANF supplemented by 42% the samples of vegetables and fruits from domestic production that will be checked between May 20 and August 31, compared to the same period of the year 2023.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development assured that all the necessary measures will be taken to supply the population with seasonal fruits and vegetables, which correspond both in terms of quality and compliance with marketing standards, as well as in terms of levels maximum allowed pesticide residues.
