What are the codes that protect your information

#21#

This code indicates whether calls, messages and other information are forwarded. Details about the types of active forwarding and information transferred will appear on the phone screen.

*#62#

The code reveals where calls, messages and other useful information are routed if you can’t be reached.

##002#

This is a universal code to disable all forms of forwarding on your phone. Specialists recommend using it before roaming is activated to avoid additional charges for calls forwarded to voicemail.

*#60#

Shows the phone’s IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identifier). Knowing this helps you find your phone if it’s stolen. The location is transmitted to the network operator even with a different SIM card. The IMEI also allows to identify the model and technical characteristics of the phone.

Special codes

There are special codes that can reveal if someone is tracking your location, according to Capital.ro. To check this, you will need the NetMonitor application and one of the following codes:

For iPhone

#12345#3001

For Android

##4636## or ##197328640##

What are the steps

– Go to the UMTS Cell Environment section, then UMTS RR info, and write down all the numbers displayed under Cell ID. These are the numbers of nearby base stations. The phone will automatically connect to the station that offers the best signal.

– Go back to the main menu and select MM info, then Serving PLMN. Note the numbers shown under Local Area Code (LAC).

– Using these two numbers and a regular site (fourth tab from the left), you can locate on the map the station to which your phone is connected. Suspect stations are often mobile ones, which may be located in a truck or small bus equipped with a large antenna. These vehicles are often used at events such as concerts or in areas with poor internet coverage. If you notice such a vehicle nearby, without an obvious explanation, it could be an indication that you are being watched.

Practices recommended by specialists

Specialists recommend Android phone users to periodically check the device for viruses. Among the most dangerous is PlaceRaider, which once installed on your phone, this trojan captures images of your surroundings, builds a 3D model of the building you are in, and uses any internet connection to transmit the collected information, including phone data, such as passwords.

It is also recommended to use secure, privacy-protecting apps such as Telegram, Chare, Wickr or Signal.

Information published on the Internet must also be selected very carefully. Be especially careful when posting photos of children.

Avoid installing unknown apps on your phone and periodically check apps you have previously installed. Don’t access unsafe sites or links or connect to unsecured public Wi-Fi networks.

How do you know if your phone is being tapped?

This is difficult to know, but there are certain signs that indicate such a situation, such as unusual noises during calls, rapid battery drain, overheating of the device, or unexpected device reboots.
