The bizarre case of a 27-year-old Romanian who suddenly became paralyzed. “I saw him wearing a hoodie and asked him if he was cold”

A 27-year-old man was suddenly paralyzed, unable to move his arms and legs. He arrived at the Bagdasar Arseni hospital, where the doctors gave him no chance of survival. Now, however, his condition has improved, and specialists believe it is a virus.

The young man, who was perfectly healthy until May, suddenly started complaining of great pain, according to Digi24.

“Being with him at home, I saw him wearing a sweatshirt and asked him if he was cold. No, my hand hurts”said the patient’s mother.

In just a few minutes, the pain spread to his legs, and the family rushed him to the hospital. After visits to five hospitals and several different diagnoses, the young man ended up in Intensive Care, with breathing and swallowing difficulties, completely immobilized.

“They told me that it might not start until the morning. We went to him, he was yellow, yellow like wax. Finally, he ended up in the recovery clinic of Bagdasar Arseni hospital, and only then did he start to make progress”said the patient’s mother.

What the specialists say

“They ruled out an autoimmune cause, a bacterial cause, a viral cause, and then the conclusion of the neurologists there was that it was still a virus that couldn’t be identified”said Dr. Mihaela Mandu, physical rehabilitation doctor.

As a rule, patients with such problems are victims of road accidents.

“The tetraplegic patient is a functional tetraparetic, he can walk short, medium distances, with support in the frame, and I think we will overcome this stage as well and reach a stage of greater independence, crutch, cane”added Prof. Dr. Gelu Onose.

The young man will be discharged, but he needs 3 months of recovery. The Health Center settles only 4 weeks. For this reason, doctors are forced to fragment admissions, that is, to discharge him for a period or to transfer him to other wards, after which to admit him again to the recovery ward.
