Between August 11 and 16, 2025, five resorts in the south of the Romanian coast: Olimp, Neptun, Jupiter, Saturn and Mangalia, become outdoor health centers, within the National Prevention Campaign “Able to be healthy!” organized by the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest.

The teams will consist of 46 resident doctors and specialists, coordinated by university professors and leaders of medical companies in Romania, a UMFCD statement said.

Free beach consultations. Locations and program

Between 11 and 15 August, medical tents will work between 09:00 – 12:00 and 15:00 – 18:00, and on August 16 only in the morning. Screening points will be strategically located:

  • Olimp – Hotel Meduza Hotel
  • Neptun – Salvamar point area
  • Jupiter – Beach Hotel Hercules
  • Saturn – near the SMURD point
  • Mangalia – Salvamar point area

Each tent is arranged by the Ministry of National Defense and bears the campaign banners.

“I think this beautiful initiative of our university, the campaign” Assume to be healthy! “, Which is 5 years of existence at the Black Sea, has become not only an event for prevention medicine in Romania, but also a clear opportunity for all those who want to evaluate their health, and to evaluate themselves, Previous editions showing us that their number is constantly increasing and I hope that, this year, the frequency of tourists who will pass the campaign threshold to help us exceed the record figure registered in 2024, of 5,353, in the context that this year, the campaign enjoys the presence of a new medical specialty.said Prof. Univ. Dr. Viorel Jinga, the rector of UMF “Carol Davila” in Bucharest.

Screening for skin cancer

Dermatologists will analyze major risk factors for skin cancer: excessive sun or solar exposure, family melanoma history, professional or recreational exposure to UV radiation. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the white population, with an incidence 3-4 times higher than a few decades ago.

Early detection can save lives, given that melanoma, although it represents below 5% of cases, causes 75% of deaths by skin cancer. The coordination of the dermatology team is provided by the conf. Univ. Dr. Alin Codruț Nicolescu, president of the Romanian Society of Dermatology, together with Prof. Univ. Dr. Maria Magdalena Constantin from Colentina Clinical Hospital.

Prevention of osteoporosis and metabolic syndrome

Endocrinologists will evaluate the risk of osteoporotic fractures using the Frax and IOF questionnaire, as well as the risk factors for metabolic syndrome:

  • measurement of weight, height and abdominal circumference,
  • Determination of blood pressure,
  • Testing capillary blood sugar.

The results of the latest editions show alarming figures: 67% of the participants had overstas or obesity, 42% high blood pressure and almost 8% type 2 diabetes.

Child health assessment: nutrition and prevention

In previous editions, the pediatricians examined over 1,200 children between 5 and 17 years old, finding that 25.1% had excess weight. Factors such as unbalanced diet, frequent fast food consumption and family history have been decisive in problems.

Novelty of 2025 edition: Spirometric Screening for Respiratory Diseases

For the first time, the campaign also includes spirometric tests for COPD, asthma and other chronic respiratory conditions. The evaluation will also analyze the quality of sleep, but also the effects of smoking.

The participation of the Romanian Pneumology Society is important because exercises on this topic of spirometric screening have been done by the “asthma day” and the “day of the COPD” over many years. All these have been traditionally organized because the COPD (chronic obstructive bronchopneumopathy) has a frequency of almost 10 cases per 100 patients and 4 cases per 100 patients with asthma.
