More than 143,000 students from the 12th and 13th grades take, on Monday, March 23, the first test within the simulation of the 2026 Baccalaureate exam, in Romanian Language and Literature. Access to the exam rooms is allowed until 08:30, based on an identity document, and the duration of the test is three hours.
The simulation is carried out in 1,364 educational units, representing 95.59% of the high schools in the country, according to the data communicated by the Ministry of Education and Research on March 20. Approximately 63 high schools will not organize the testing.
Students’ works will be evaluated by two evaluator teachers, selected with priority from those who followed the continuous training program for the Corps of evaluator teachers for national exams and contests (CPEECN), so that each work will be corrected by at least one teacher accredited in this program.
The results obtained during the simulation will not be included in the catalog unless requested by the students, through a written request. However, the grades can be analyzed together with the teachers, in order to improve the preparation for the final exam.
Although the education unions previously announced a possible boycott, at the national level the simulations are being carried out in most educational units. According to the Ministry of Education, the exercise takes place in almost 95% of schools.
For students in high schools where the simulation is not organized, the school inspectorates tried to find redistribution solutions to other units. In Bucharest, however, this will not be possible.
“From our perspective, every student must have the opportunity to support the simulations and be assessed fairly and objectively, in accordance with the legal provisions”said Mihnea Haiduc, president of the National Council of Students.
In some high schools, the decision regarding the organization of the simulation was changed just a few days before the tests. “Initially, the decision was taken by vote at the level of the teachers’ collective, with the majority of teaching staff speaking in favor of the boycott. The return on the decision was made on Friday, 20.03.2026, by majority vote”, explained Marian Ursu, teacher of Romanian language and literature at “Neagoe Basarab” High School in Oltenița, Călăraşi county.
Approximately half of the high schools that do not organize the simulation are from Bucharest, where such exercises have never been organized in a unified manner.
