The Minister of Education and Research, Mihai Dimian, said on Tuesday, March 31, that the rate for payment by the hour in education could be increased starting this fall, emphasizing that solutions and financial resources are currently being sought for this measure.
“If we talk about the hourly rate, we are trying in these weeks to identify the amounts necessary to increase this rate from the fall. At the moment, we think it is very important to have an honest discussion about the involvement of teachers in the general activities and to present this picture to the society”stated the minister, who participated on Monday in the round table “Addictions in children and adolescents”, organized by the Presidential Administration, writes Agerpres.
Mihai Dimian explained that, currently, there is a perception that teachers would work between 16 and 20 hours a week in school, but this figure does not correctly reflect the involvement of teaching staff in activities carried out outside of class hours. Studies show that teachers spend a lot of time in direct contact with students, preparing lessons, correcting homework and other related activities.
The minister also said that he presented to the unions a proposal for the teacher’s job description, which would also include the hours worked outside the program, to give a clear picture of the time actually dedicated to education.
“To identify how many hours are dedicated to simulation activities, training, preparing lessons or correcting assignments, so that we have an overall picture to present to society. This differs from discipline to discipline and from one type of education to another”Dimian added.
According to the minister, this month, the Ministry of Education paid approximately 254 million lei for old court decisions, an amount that, if it had been allocated differently, would have allowed an increase in the hourly rate by approximately 50%, but differentiated.
“Once we have the budget, we also identify ways to make savings in certain areas or supplement funds in the second part of the year. We will see how we can reach such a solution“, explained the Minister of Education.
