The Ministry of Health is changing the way of establishing places and positions at the residency, after years in which they were criticized as having been allocated “from a pen”. Alexandru Rogobete announces that, starting this year, the number of positions will be correlated with demographic analyzes and with the real needs of the health system, based on human resource data and retirement estimates in each specialty.
The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, stated that in recent years, measures have been taken to increase the number of residency places in the specialty of family medicine, with the aim of reducing the shortage of personnel in the health system.
“Last year, at the residency, there was the largest number of places in family medicine in the last ten years, precisely because this gap must be closed. Family medicine is the foundation of the health system. It is as important as the specialized outpatient component. I believe that this difference in the number of positions can be adjusted over time.”said Minister Alexandru Rogobete, during the “Adevărul” Healthcare Forum.
He pointed out that in the past the allocation of places and posts was not always based on demographic analysis and the real needs of the system.
“I’m going to say something that’s going to upset a lot of people. For years, positions have been taken out of the pen, without a clear estimate, without knowing how many doctors will retire in the next five years in each specialty, without taking into account these absolutely essential demographics.” stated Rogobete.
According to him, the Ministry of Health has carried out a detailed analysis of human resources in hospitals, including work groups and estimates of retirements by specialty, in order to better substantiate the number of places removed for residency this year.
“This year we did an analysis to know for each hospital, the work groups, how many will retire in each specialty. And this year, at the residency, we will release the adapted number of posts. The discrepancy won’t stop overnight, but it’s an important starting point“, the Minister of Health also transmitted.
