Victoria Stoiciu responded to her former PSD colleagues who asked her to resign from the Parliament as well, after leaving the party, stating that, “after the pact with AUR”, she remained with social democracy, “and others only with the logo”and wondering who should actually leave.
“I am told by some of my former party colleagues that “the party made me” and that I should resign from the Senate.
So I make a clarification – to the surprise of some and unlike others, I had a career before politics. I wrote in the press, I did research for institutions in Romania and abroad. My CV is public”, sent the senator.
She added that she worked for social democracy “more than many in the party did.”
“For authentic, European social democracy. Because I have been active for almost 20 years in a German social democratic foundation, which promoted left-wing ideas and policies in Romania.
The mandate was given to me by the voters, it is not the property of the party. It’s true, my name on the ballot was under the PSD logo. But after the pact with AUR, I stayed with social democracy, and others only with the logo. Who should go?”
After Senator Victoria Stoiciu announced her resignation from the PSD, some of the party’s members, including Sorin Grindeanu, asked her to withdraw from Parliament as well.
“I think he’s also resigning from the Senate (no resignation) (…) It’s democracy”was the reaction of PSD head, Sorin Grindeanu.
She announced her resignation from the party on Tuesday, April 28, amid major differences with the social democrats’ political line and collaboration with the AUR.
In a message posted on her Facebook page, she also spoke about the need to maintain a “sanitary cord” towards parties considered extremist, warning of the risks of their normalization in political life.
