There were checks at the Polizu Maternity Hospital in Bucharest, after the parents of a premature baby accused that the newborn was left to die in an incubator, after contracting a nosocomial infection in the hospital. The health inspectors notified the College of Doctors for “a possible case of malpractice”, and an attending physician was fined for not performing the necessary screening when the mother was hospitalized.
The Ministry of Health announces that following the verification of the hospitalization sheet, the health inspectors from the Bucharest Public Health Directorate found that “the admission screening was not carried out, according to the Protocol in force”. The attending physician received a fine of 2,000 lei.
At the same time, the health inspectors notified the Romanian College of Physicians for,“the aspects concerning a possible case of medical malpractice”.
Irregularities regarding hygiene standards were not found, say those from the Ministry of Health.
“During the checks, the clinical observation sheets (FOCG) of the newborn were analyzed, as well as the documents certifying the performance of cleaning and disinfection operations, the biocidal products used, the nosocomial infection declaration sheet (IAAM), as well as the patient screening protocol.
Following the checks, the health inspectors found NO non-conformities regarding the hygienic-sanitary conditions, the way to use biocidal products, the self-control plan, compliance with the Screening Protocol for the verified patient, the preparation of the IAAM file and its declaration”. it is stated in the press release.
The checks come after the baby’s parents filed several complaints. The child was born prematurely, at the Polizu Maternity Hospital, in January, and died on March 17. The parents say their baby contracted a hospital-acquired infection while in the hospital, and the medical staff allegedly abandoned him in pain. In the complaints submitted to the authorities, the family attached several shocking photos from the last days of the little one’s life.
