The most popular beaches in Romania. Where tourists go for parties, tranquility or (almost) wild beaches

From resorts full of clubs and new accommodation facilities, to almost wild beaches, where tourists come with their umbrellas from home and seek tranquility, the Romanian coast attracts different types of visitors. Despite the criticism of the widening works and the often criticized prices, the beach in Mamaia remains among the most appreciated. In total, Romania has 244 kilometers of coastline on the Black Sea. We analyzed what tourists say about the most popular beaches. With pluses and minuses, unadorned.

Mamaia, the most famous and lively resort

The beach in Mamaia stretches for about 8 km and varies in width. Tourists can even walk 200 meters through the sand until they reach the sea. The very smooth entrance makes it especially suitable for families with children.

The beach is completely landscaped, from one end to the other, with hotels, restaurants, beach bars, sunbeds and areas dedicated to water sports. The nightlife and the private beaches in the north, beautifully landscaped, help it to remain the pole of fun at sea. The big minus is the high prices.

On TripAdvisor, most reviews are positive:

“There are an insane amount of beach condos to choose from, and many more are under construction. There are amazing parties, but only on Fridays and Saturdays. The rest of the week is very quiet and family friendly. The food is great, the sea is warm, and there are lounge chairs on the beach. Jet ski stations are literally everywhere along the beach.”

Someone else recommended the resort for a unique reason:

“If you want to catch the last vestiges of the tourist resorts from the communist era, you better hurry, because the place is changing fast, and the number of new buildings is impressive.”

In terms of criticism, in addition to high prices, visitors have other complaints. Someone wrote

“Everything is very expensive and dirty. Waiters are not nice and polite to tourists.”

Constanta, urban beaches and quick access to the city

The beaches in Constanța are more compact and less commercial than those in Mamaia, but they have the advantage of quick access to restaurants, museums and tourist attractions.

Surprisingly or not, many good reviews come from tourists from abroad.

A couple from Paris wrote:

“Beautiful and especially huge beach. The sand is very beautiful and pleasant. It impresses with its grandeur. In the off-season, the beach clubs have closed, but the place is not unkempt. On the contrary, it retains its natural charm.”

And an American tourist was impressed by the beach and the city:

“Constanța, Romania is an extraordinary place! I visited him twice on vacation.”

Regarding the minuses, a tourist from Belgium remarked:

“I wouldn’t go in the water, there seems to be a problem with red algae, quite smelly.”

Raven, peace and nature

Corbu Beach is recommended for those looking for peace, nature and as few facilities as possible. Access to the area is more difficult, and the infrastructure is minimal.

“It is one of the last semi-wild beaches on the Romanian coast! If you choose to go, take umbrellas, towels and plenty of water. Not that you can’t find it there, but you have to buy from the locals, far from the beach, from the terraces, which can be inconvenient if you’re thirsty”;

By car to the sea: the most beautiful destinations in Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey that you can reach without taking a plane

“Nice wild beach, take what you need, a few places selling food and drinks near the parking lot, nothing else — and that’s the best part. If it’s not to your taste, then stay at Mamaia” here are some of the visitors’ opinions.

In the minuses chapter, someone noted:

“I liked the (still) wild area. However, the traces of ‘civilization’ can be seen at every step: it is difficult for people to collect the mess after them. I went for a long run along the beach and it was wonderful. The water was very cold when I visited and I regret not being able to swim. If you come by car, access can be difficult for cars with a low wheelbase.”

Vama Veche, bohemian atmosphere, affected by recent transformations

Vama Veche remains one of the most popular destinations for tourists looking for music, freedom and nightlife. However, in recent years the resort has developed, to the displeasure of those in love with the former spirit of the Customs.

“I just hope you won’t be disappointed, the quality of the parties has decreased a lot in recent years, Vama has kind of lost its identity”, someone wrote.

Others still see the glass half full:

“The identity of the customs, as it once was in the stories, you really won’t find it anymore, but the good part is that, along with the diversity in the clubs, a fun space has been created for almost any group (almost…). The beach in Vama, honestly, for me is the perfect beach and it is the finest sand I have seen on the Romanian coast. The only thing is to be placed on the side from May 2, and not the one from Bulgaria, which is wilder and implicitly with stones on the shore.”, someone wrote on reddit.

New rules on the Romanian coast: limited sunbeds and umbrellas, guaranteed free access and beaches without construction

But some criticize other aspects:

“It seems to me that the beach in Vama is far from perfect, at least if you’re a swimmer it’s awful, there are a lot of stones at the entrance, it’s quite deep, strong current.”

Tuzla, the beach with the most beautiful water in Romania

Tuzla beach has become more and more popular in recent years, thanks to the spectacular landscape and especially, the color of the water, considered the most beautiful on the Romanian coast.

“The color of the water exceeds all expectations. As if it were not the Black Sea. The beach is also beautiful, especially in the off-season”;

“For us, this beach is a little corner of Greece just 2.5 hours by car (Bucharest). The terrace is very nice, the prices are decent”;

“An inexplicably beautiful water, it has nothing to do with the rest of the beaches in Romania“;

“A superb, clean place, the first time I didn’t regret paying for a sunbed. It was worth it”are just some of the reviews of this kind on Google.

Someone also noted a downside:

“Watch your feet when you enter the water, there are quite big rocks and you can get hurt.”
