The payment was registered on April 8, 2025 and was made in the name of Cristela Georgescu. Of the total sanction, she paid 32,500 lei, according to documents presented by Antena 3 CNN.

The information raises new questions regarding the sources of income of the Georgescu family, given that the former candidate for the presidential elections has not declared income for about two years.

According to the last declaration of wealth submitted in 2024, Călin Georgescu mentioned that he received an annual salary of 72,000 lei from the University of Pitesti, but currently he is no longer employed by the institution.

In the same wealth declaration, Cristela Georgescu appeared with income of approximately 25,458 lei per year, i.e. around 2,100 lei per month, from her company.

However, the former candidate continues to display a lifestyle that has attracted attention in the public space. Georgescu appears at events accompanied by bodyguards and travels by car with driver. The family lives in a villa near Bucharest, which he previously stated was bought during the election campaign.

In the declaration of wealth, Georgescu also mentioned two bank deposits opened at OTP Bank, with a total value of more than 260,000 euros, as well as an inner-city land of more than 3,000 square meters in Brașov county.

Asked publicly what he does for a living, Călin Georgescu avoided giving a concrete answer.

“God holds us all. Me and you too”he declared in an intervention on Realitatea TV.

The fine of 200,000 lei represents the largest sanction provided by law in case of violation of electoral financing rules and was applied by AEP after the controls regarding the 2024 presidential campaign.
