The baccalaureate is changing from 2030: students will have more tests and new written exams. The document is in public consultation

The Ministry of Education launched in public consultation the project regarding the new structure of the Baccalaureate exam starting in 2030, and the proposed changes significantly change the way students will be evaluated. The new model, based on the Pre-University Education Law no. 198/2023, introduces additional tests and puts more emphasis on general skills and foreign languages.

The most important change is the appearance of a new mandatory written test, called “Sample F”, intended to assess basic skills. This will oblige students to take exams in areas complementary to the chosen profile.

Thus, a student from the real profile will also have to take a test in a humanistic discipline, and a student from the human will have to pass an exam from the real area.

At the same time, the project provides for two mandatory oral tests in modern languages, not just one, as is currently the case. Students will take exams for Modern Language 1, at B2 level, and Modern Language 2, at B1 or A2 level.

Another important change concerns the humanities profile, the philology specialization, where the foreign language becomes a mandatory written test in the exam.

The new structure of the Baccalaureate will include three large categories of assessments: tests of oral and digital skills, common written tests and differentiated tests depending on the profile.

The document can be consulted here.

At the skills tests, students will take:

– oral assessment in the Romanian language;

– oral assessment in the mother tongue, for minorities;

– two oral tests in modern languages;

– practical test for digital skills.

In the written exams, all students will have mandatory tests in the Romanian language and, where appropriate, in the mother tongue.

In addition, there will be two differentiated tests:

Test Ewith two profile-specific exams;

Sample Fnewly introduced, for complementary skills.

For example, a student from the Philology profile will support:

– Romanian language – written;

– a foreign language – writing;

– History or Geography;

– a complementary test from the real world, such as Mathematics.

In the case of a student from Mate-Info, the structure will include:

– Romanian language – written;

– Mathematics;

– Informatics or Physics;

– a complementary humanistic test, such as History or Sociology.

Through the new model, the Ministry of Education aims for graduates to have a more balanced training and broader skills, regardless of the profile chosen in high school. The project is currently in public consultation and would apply to students who will take the Baccalaureate in 2030.
