Jon Cypher, the Prince from the first “Cinderella” story, has died. He was 94 years old

Jon Cypher, the actor who starred in the first television version of “Cinderella” as well as “Hill Street Blues” and “Major Dad,” died last week on August 3.

According to Forbes, Cypher has had more than 90 roles in film and television productions throughout his career.

The actor was born on January 13, 1932, in the city of New York. He graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in 1949 and Brooklyn College in 1953. He later earned a master’s degree in marriage and family counseling from the University of Vermont.

After his television debut, Jon Cypher had a prolific series career with roles in such productions as General Hospital, Santa Barbara, Dynasty, Knots Landing, Dallas and Law & Order.

In addition to his film and television roles, Cypher, according to the obituary, appeared in 12 Broadway productions, playing such characters as Don Quixote in “Man of La Mancha,” Thomas Jefferson in “1776” and Juan Perón in “Evita.”

In a 1994 interview with the website of the Ashland Theater in Oregon, Cypher explained why he felt closer to the theater.

“That’s where the passion is. In the theater, the curtain goes up, you’re on stage and you have to do it. I had the opportunity to play Thomas Jefferson on Broadway in a musical called 1776″Cypher stated.

“There were 2,000 people there and there was that interaction with the audience. In a movie you don’t have that. There can be an amazing interaction between you and the other actor, an amazing scene together — it’s great: ‘Oh my God, I forgot the camera was there’. But there’s no audience. It’s like you’re constantly in danger. In movies today there’s not really that risk.”
