Neurosurgeon Leon Dănăilă, tips for a healthy brain: “I recommend at least 4,000 steps a day”

Academician Leon Dănăilă, renowned neurosurgeon, researcher and inventor, claims that “physical activity plays a crucial role, especially during the aging period, at least 4,000 steps per day are recommended”.

The renowned professor says that “there is no fountain of youth into which we can dip our bodies to regain our youth, just as the aging process cannot be stopped,” but nevertheless, it exists “simple methods we can adopt throughout our lives to preserve our physical and mental integrity even in our later years.”

The famous professor Leon Dănăilă made a short list of the main activities that contribute to the longevity of the brain. The most important are movement, satisfactions, successes and faith.

“To maintain the longevity of the brain, we need to pay attention to some essential factors. Physical activity plays a crucial role, especially in the aging period, at least 4,000 steps per day are recommended”recommends Dr. Dănăilă.

Satisfactions and faith, special importance

According to the doctor, regular exercise is associated with increased longevity and a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, high blood pressure or infectious diseases.

At the same time, claims Dr. Leon Dănăilă, satisfactions are of particular importance. “Their lack can lead to depressive states and decreased brain activity. The successes you achieve in the activity, likewise, have a very beneficial role in the brain activity”wrote on his Facebook page, neurosurgeon Leon Dănăilă, doctor of medicine and academician.

Last but not least, the specialist states that “sacredness is essential to brain function and overall well-being.”

Born in Darabani, Botoșani, on July 1, 1933, Leon Dănăilă is a specialist neurosurgeon at the “Gh. Marinescu” from Bucharest and a politician. He was elected a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy (on October 24, 1997) and then its full member (from December 20, 2004).

A graduate of the Faculty of Medicine in Iași (1958) and the Faculty of Philosophy-Psychology in Bucharest, Leon Dănăilă took the position of neurosurgeon professor at the II Neurosurgery Clinic of the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest in 1991. and in 1992 that of professor of psychoneurology at the Faculty of Psychology of the “Titu Maiorescu” University in Bucharest.
