On the occasion of a two-day working visit to Spain, the president of the PNL and of the Senate, Nicolae Ciucă, announced on Friday, March 15, through a post published on Facebook, that he met with “extraordinary Romanians” who have settled and work in the Barcelona area.

During the two days, the head of the PNL meets with the Romanians who live in this country, entrepreneurs and employees, and takes part in various activities carried out within the extended community of Romanians.

Nicolae Ciucă, Lucian Bode, former Minister of the Interior and general secretary of the PNL, and first vice-president Rareș Bogdan visited one of the slaughterhouse chains in Catalonia on Friday, where half of the employees are of Romanian origin. Specifically, 50% of the nearly 400 employees are Romanian.

In addition, they talked with the Romanians about the working conditions, but also about the problems they face.

Today I met extraordinary Romanians who live and work in the Barcelona area. I visited a slaughterhouse of Carniques Celra, which has half of its employees of Romanian origin. In fact, the company is the largest employer of Romanian citizens in the region of Catalonia.

Those I spoke to told me that in this modern factory they have good working conditions and incomes that allow them to send money home. They are proud of the quality of their work and the fact that the products they make here are appreciated on all continents”it says in the post in question.

“A dream came true”

Moreover, Nicolae Ciucă announced that Romanians settled in Spain will have the opportunity to obtain dual citizenship, no longer having to give up their Romanian citizenship when they apply for the Spanish one.

We also discussed the issue of the impossibility of holding Romanian citizenship in parallel with the Spanish one, and I assured them that this process – which we initiated last year with the Madrid government – will be completed this year. They were not easy negotiations, Spain having such agreements only with its neighbors Portugal and France. I am extremely happy that, starting this year, they will no longer have to give up their Romanian citizenship when they apply for the Spanish one. For the over one million Romanians in Spain, this will be a dream come true“, the head of the PNL also stated.

We remind you that the procedures for obtaining dual citizenship were started by the PNL leader himself, after the visit made during the period when he was prime minister. At that time, the Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă and the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, agreed to create a working group in this regard.
