Gabriela Firea, first vice-president of the PSD and pretender to the position of general mayor, claims that the head of the party, Marcel Ciolacu, did not put forth the effort to propose her as a candidate for the position of mayor, although he had been promised this.

“Last year I was the clear joint candidate of the PSD-PNL Alliance in Bucharest, being the best placed candidate in all polls, and the sectors were to be divided. I have been to countless internal party and Coalition meetings where this was the most serious discussion. A change of heart followed, motivated by the “hate” that I could arouse, among the so-called right-wing electorate. I think it's just a pretext”stated Gabriela Firea in an interview for Budgetul.ro.
The PSD representative claims that she was one step away from victory in 2020 as well. “I once won the Capital City Hall with a score higher than the party and when I lost, with a small margin compared to the opponent, I had almost 40% and the party took 26% in the parliamentary elections 3 years ago and 16% in the past European parliamentary elections. How is my candidacy being kicked now, by which I would certainly have sent Mr. Nicușor Dan home, the leaders of the Coalition will have to give explanations”Nature continued.
Then, the PSD first vice-president directly conveyed the fact that she tried in any way to remove him from the race and issued a warning. “For political reasons, it seems that every option is being sought, as long as I am not a candidate. Even with the risk of the current mayor remaining in office (…) After the candidate established by the Coalition is officially announced, I will publicly announce what I will do next”added Firea.
Last but not least, she pointed out the fact that Marcel Ciolacu did not fight enough for his candidacy: “I don't think he fought hard enough for my candidacy. I don't know the reason. I can only guess“
