Nicușor Dan, about the Coalition's candidate for PMB: Cîrstoiu will not say no to PSD's demands

The general mayor of Bucharest, Nicușor Dan, declared on Wednesday, during a televised interview, that he knows little about Cătălin Cîrstoiu, the coalition candidate for PMB. The Edilul of the Capital believes that his opponent will go to these elections with the PSD program and that if he wins he will not refuse the social democrats even when they ask him to give a PUZ for a real estate shark.

For the moment I don't want to talk about his lordship as a person, I'm waiting to read, because I haven't made his file. But to see things in public space. I spoke two or three times on the phone about a matter related to the Municipal Hospital, an extension, a permit, a planning certificate”, said Nicușor Dan, on Digi 24, when asked how he evaluates the candidate of the PMB coalition and if he knows him.

Nicușor Dan stated that Cătălin Cîrstoiu asked him for help during the current mandate and that he granted it. “It was about a European investment in the Municipal Hospital and it was about an urban planning certificate that would be followed by an investment, which we issued”. added the mayor of the Capital.

Asked how he would evaluate doctor Cîrstoiu, Dan replied that: “in the discussion, one, two, three, as many as we had, it was a very to-the-point discussion, on what the hospital wanted through its director”.

The Mayor of the Capital: I want the support of all right-wing voters

Nicușor Dan stated that he hopes that PNL sympathizers will give him credit for a new mandate at PMB.

Of course, I want, I expect, I want the support of all right-wing voters. Because in 2020 we had, after 12 years of government, PSD local government in Bucharest, I had pressure from the entire right-wing public, on all right-wing parties at that time, to come up with a single candidate, I happened to be that me and everything I did in this mandate was to satisfy the demands for which this public credited me. Now, I think I also have friends who have voted for the PNL all their lives and who hardly ask themselves whether or not they can vote for a joint PSD-PNL list at the General Council, so for all these people and for the prospect of having a mayor which, on the one hand, should take the big infrastructure works forward, and on the other hand, not to cohabit with the real estate sharks, I think that all this right-wing public can give (one vote no)”, said Nicușor Dan, when asked if he is still counting on the votes of PNL sympathizers, in the next candidacy, considering that Cîrstoiu is the candidate of the coalition, not just PSD.

Dan: PSD has two candidates – Cîrstoiu and Piedone

Nicușor Dan said that PSD has two candidates for the Capital City Hall: “Mr. Cîrstoiu and Mr. Piedone“.

Asked if he thinks that Cristian Popescu Piedone is supported from the shadows by social democrats, he answered: “I dont say that. Okay, PSD has done this once again”

“PSD has done this once again when he put Mr. Diaconescu as an official candidate and the organizations supported Sorin Oprescu in 2008. His lordship's son is a PSD deputy if I'm not mistaken, so there is a collaboration there and it will be an option for the PSD public to choose between these two candidates. (…) He didn't say it was the party's choice, I said it was the public's“, said Dan, when asked what makes Piedone the PSD candidate.

Asked which of the two counter-candidates, Cîrstoiu and Piedone, would really be a problem to be able to win a new mandate, Dan answered: “That's what people always tell us. This candidacy is very recent, I think that sociologists will give us an answer in 2-4 weeks.” There is this cleavage between the right and the PSD in Bucharest and I think that this fight will be between the best ranked of these two candidates, close to the PSD pool and me because I am the right-wing public representative“, added the mayor of the Capital.

Why does he think that Cîrstoiu would be a PSD mayor

Nicușor Dan, who is supported by the United Right Alliance for a new mandate, was asked if he thinks that part of his electorate will choose to support Cîrstoiu, also independent, supported by the PSD-PNL coalition, and he answered : “Yes, exactly, of course there are some candidates for the City Hall, but they show their support by some parties. Mr. Cîrstoiu is supported by the PSD, his campaign chief is Gabriela Firea, who I understand lends his program. (…) Mr. Oprescu was also an independent supported by the PSD, and in the end the policy he made was the policy of the PSD”.

Asked how he sees Cîrstoiu's campaign, which is supported by Gabriela Firea, Sebastian Burduja, and the official communicator Rareș Bogdan, Nicușor Dan stated that he did not know this, but that he is waiting to see what program he will propose. “If it is the one that I know from 2020, it is the PSD program to govern Bucharest, which I have seen in practice for 12 yearsDan added.

Asked if in the hypothesis that Cîrstoiu will become general mayor, he thinks that he will be a PSD mayor, with the people and administration of the social democrats, the mayor of the Capital confirmed: “Exact. You summarized very well what I tried to tell you for 15 minutes”. “It was presented today by this coalition, an important role in this movement is played by Mrs. Gabriela Firea, the former general mayor, the head of the campaign”, Dan added.

Asked if he thought there could be a Firea government through Cîrstoiu, Dan answered: “It is hard for me to believe that Dr. Cîrstoiu, if the party comes and proposes something to him, will say no, for example to give a PUZ for a real estate shark“, adding that in the case of his mandate, he had an agreement with the two parties that supported him and he handled the urban planning area by himself, saying “no” to certain requirements.
