Between December 1, 2023 and March 25, 2024, the Bulgarian neighbors registered 1.8 million tourists, and the Ministry of Tourism in this country estimates a 5% increase in the number of tourists compared to the 2022/2023 winter season, reports Sofia Globe and Novinite , quoted by Agerpres.
The most numerous tourists were Bulgarians – 1.3 million. When it comes to foreign tourists, the most were from Romania (62,000), Greece (57,000) and Turkey (53,000). And 53,000 Britons visited the neighboring state during the winter season.
The top is continued by tourists from Italy (28,000), North Macedonia (26,000), Germany (23,000), Israel (21,000) and Serbia (19,000).
Sofia was the main destination with 323,000 tourists, followed by Bansko, Velingrad, Samokov, Smolyan, Chepelare and Varna.
According to the latest data provided by the Unified Tourism Information System (UTIS), the largest proportion of tourists belong to the 30-44 age group. In terms of the most popular ski destinations, there are Bansko, Samokov, Smolyan and Chepelare.
Moreover, the Minister of Tourism, Zaritsa Dinkova, said that tour operators have noted a 70% increase in early bookings by British visitors for the summer season and a 20% advance in early bookings by German tourists.
