David-Andrei Anghel, known for the gold medal obtained last year at the International Olympics in Japan, came back strong again this year, placing first in the national competition, together with five other colleagues who share his passion.
He was not at all impressed by the difficulty of the subjects, on the contrary, he categorized them as “trivial”.
“I don't want to sound arrogant, but the scientific part was downright trivial and the olympiad and the barrage imposed some very easy subjects, I didn't really like it“said the media student, quoted by Agerpres.
How much he prepares and his future plans
This performance comes as a confirmation of his efforts, highlighting the work, perseverance and passion behind the results. Anghel admitted that he dedicates himself to mathematics, working four to five hours a day, under the guidance of teachers Victor Vacariu and Dan Dumitrescu.
Looking to the future, he wants to continue his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States of America, but he has not yet made a clear decision about the field he will study.
In the twelfth grade, on the first step of the podium of the National Mathematics Olympiad, together with Anghel, Andrei Giovani Chiriţă (National College of Informatics “Tudor Vianu” from Bucharest), Robert Gîdea (International Theoretical High School of Informatics from Bucharest), Petre Luca Mirea-Bulubaşa (“Mircea cel Bătrân” National College from Râmnicu Vâlcea), Vlad Titus Spătaru (International Theoretical Computer Science High School from Bucharest) and Mara Ioana Zaharia (“Vasile Alecsandri” National College from Galaţi).
Professor Cătălin Gherghe, the president of the Central Commission of the National Mathematical Olympiad, highlighted the exceptional level of the participating students and the importance of their preparation, emphasizing the fact that their performances are almost historic.
380 students from grades IX-XII from all counties of the country participated in the competition, along with 42 accompanying teachers and 50 teachers who are members of the Central Commission.
