“I am very happy to see Simona Halep on the court again. He is where he wants to be. I'm waiting to see her play, probably in Madrid or at Roland Garros“, said Nadia Comăneci, who was present, on Saturday, at the press conference organized on the occasion of the draw for the main draw at the Ţiriac Open tennis tournament, which will take place at the Năstase/Marica Sports Base in the Capital.
Nadia Comăneci claims that Romania's best chances of having a gymnast in a final at the Olympic Games are on the beam.
“The Romanian team qualified and I am glad that the girls will participate in the Olympic Games. What I have noticed about today's generation is that they are very competitive and they really want a good result. It remains to be seen what will happen. We know the potential on paper, now it depends on how they will perform and the qualifications. I will have the opportunity to see the girls, Sabrina, in the coming days and I hope it will be good. But we have the possibility of the final, for sure. I think that on the beam we have our chance for the final“, explained the former gymnast.
Asked if this Paris edition can be a success for Romania, Nadia Comăneci answered: “If we are talking about all sports, yes, certainly. Particularly, in gymnastics, I don't know. I will be in Paris and I will certainly be able to see some disciplines, but the priority will be to see gymnastics. We hope that this work of the Romanian athletes will bring laurels to Paris“.
