Klaus Iohannis had a discussion with the head of NATO on Tuesday. Jens Stoltenberg later stated that Romania is essential for the defense of the Eastern Flank.

“I encourage all allies to look very carefully into their own arsenals to deliver more ammunition and anti-aircraft defenses. Romania is essential for the defense of NATO's Eastern Flank and has pledged to support Ukraine“, the head of NATO wrote on X.
President Klaus Iohannis categorized the discussion as a substantial one, noting that Romania will continue to support Ukraine.
“We had a substantial discussion with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, focusing on the security situation in Ukraine and the Black Sea. Romania has strongly supported Ukraine since day one and we will continue to do so with determination“, Iohannis wrote on X.
The Romanian president announced his intentions to take up the post of NATO secretary general, but the US supports Mark Rutte.
