In some of the most important positions in the state, with responsibility to the citizens, politicians sometimes manage to tick off blunders or less inspired statements. In some cases, they even led to the loss of the mandate.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu was summoned to the CNCD (National Council for Combating Discrimination) for an uninspired joke. Specifically, during a conference he referred to an eternal debate regarding the border between the country's regions. However, the prime minister's joke was not well received in the public space.
“That's it, the Banatian from Grindeanu came to build a highway in Moldova. Buzăul is not in Moldova and please don't offend me. But a buzoian also came who, together with Mr. Grindeanu and the rest of his colleagues in the government, started to bring the people of Timisoara what is right to bring”was the prime minister's statement.
At another moment, the head of the Romanian Executive pronounced the wallet instead of the portfolio, referring to a position of European Commissioner that would be established at the level of the European Council and for which Romania has already started negotiations, but it has competition from Poland, which has appointed a candidate.
Former Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă also made such a statement. The head of the PNL said in press statements that he returned to Piatra-Neamț county, which is actually the municipality of residence of Neamț county.
String of problematic statements
The liberal leader Rareș Bogdan recently stated in the Insider Politic show, in connection with the journalistic investigation regarding the assets of the mayor of Sinaia, Vlad Oprea, that he advised him to make public statements because, “if you're smart enough and you talk to the press, you can turn, you can do jiu-jitsu.”
For his part, Florin Barbu, Minister of Agriculture, made statements for which he was categorized as nostalgic for communism.
“Our president, Mr. Nicolae Ceauşescu, did not say for nothing that reeds are the green gold of Romania”, said the dignitary. The statement came as a response, in an interview for Euronews Romania, to a question regarding the reason why it was necessary to declare the reed area in the Danube Delta as pasture.
And the Minister of Health Alexandru Rafila had a less happy statement, also on Prima TV. The head of the Health portfolio claimed that the hospital for children with cancer, built with donations from citizens and private companies for the “Give Life” Association, belongs to the “Marie Curie” Hospital. Minister Rafila thus managed to start a scandal, being accused by Oana Gheorghe, the vice-president of the association, of telling untruths, refusing to admit his mistake.
Leaving the Government
A more serious example is that of the former Minister of Defense Vasile Dîncu, whose blunders resulted in his departure from the Government. The social democrat resigned, implying that he is no longer wanted by the head of state Klaus Iohannis, with whom he was going to participate at that time in a CSAT meeting.
He intrigued public opinion when, at the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, he declared on Radio Romania Actualităită that “we will learn to live with the Russians on the border, but we will be supported for this, if necessary”. In an interview with Digi24, when asked about the reintroduction of compulsory military service in Romania, Vasile Dîncu gave the example of Austria, claiming that the state is a NATO member, although the country adopted a military neutrality since 1955. However, the episode that caused him to lose his mandate was the regarding statements about negotiating peace with Russia, mentioning a possible loss of territories to Ukraine.
And the former minister Eduard Novak had a series of blunders at the head of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. However, Novak left the position with the departure of the UDMR from the government, but during the leadership of the Ministry of Sports, he constantly managed to attract attention by being in the middle of controversies. The official omitted to say that the sums intended for investment projects in sports come from the Romanian Government, mentioning instead the UDMR. In another episode, Novak declared himself proud of his belonging to the Szeklerland, and another time he refused to recite the Romanian anthem. He also sparked a scandal after issuing a ministerial order that violated the right to work.
