The resigned Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, warned on Friday, April 24, that a report by the Court of Accounts shows that chemotherapy drugs were stolen from the Bucharest Oncological Institute (IOB) and taken to the private hospitals where they worked “some doctors”.
“There are still problems in the chemotherapy area because there are discontinuities from the manufacturer, there are also supply discontinuities because the auctions are delayed one or two days, but in principle during this whole period, we managed to cover those days of discontinuity with Unifarm.
It is a report of the Court of Accounts from the period 2023-2024. The lady manager who is now in office, I think she was appointed in that exact period and it is the legacy she took over from the former management, which in the meantime adjusted“, said Alexandru Rogobete in a press conference.
He specified that chemotherapy drugs were stolen from IOB and taken to private hospitals.
“Chemotherapy drugs were stolen from IOB and taken to private hospitals where some doctors worked, and the PET-CT financed by the Ministry of Health in 2022, where I signed the financing for that PET-CT, was only put into use last year.
Because, of course, but a few hundred meters away there is another private PET CT that scans oncology patients from IOB”, explained the resigned minister.
He sent that the report of the Court of Accounts will be sent “most likely” to the General Prosecutor’s Office together with all the reports made by the Ministry of Health.
Rogobete was also asked what he found after the control done at the Bucharest Oncological Institute.
“I haven’t approved the report yet, I’m going to do it. But yes, we had a body of control at the IOB last week, but that does not target the current management, but I sent the Body of Control precisely to get all those documents from that period and to understand what happened.
I’ll give you some details to tone down “they stole” and to sweeten it up, maybe. There are hospital bills but no hospital drugs. So fictitious invoices. There are invoices entered in the hospital, drugs entered in the hospital paid but not billed to the patient, although they no longer appear in the stock.
