Romania approached Wimbledon 2024 with six and a half Romanians on the main draw, if we also count the Canadian Bianca Andreescu (24 years old, 176 WTA). Who was born to Romanian parents, took his first steps in tennis in Pitesti and now supports Romania at Euro 2024, as Adevărul showed here.

In the first round, “Bibi” even met another Romanian, Jaqueline Cristian (26 years old, 62 WTA). Against whom he paraded: 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 16 minutes. In the second round at Wimbledon, Andreescu will meet the Czech Linda Noskova (19 years old, 26 WTA).
In the last match of the day with a Romanian on the field, Sorana Cîrstea (34 years old, 29 WTA) struggled with the anonymous Sonay Kartal (Great Britain, 22 years old, 298 WTA). And “successful” to register a catastrophic result: 6-3, 2-6, 0-6!
So, after the first day of Wimbledon matches, only the debutant Anca Todoni gave us a spectacular surprise, as Adevărul showed here.
Tomorrow, in London, the last two Romanians in the inaugural round will enter the field.
