The announcement was made by the world leader himself on Tuesday evening through a post on social networks.
“Unfortunately, I will not be playing in Paris this year”, said Djokovic, 38 years old, in a message published on Instagram.

With seven trophies won in this competition, the Serbian is the record holder of titles in the French capital.
In the same message, the 24-time Grand Slam champion spoke about his special connection with the Paris tournament.
“I have fond memories and many successes over the years. I hope to be back here next year“, said Novak Djokovic.
Following Djokovic’s withdrawal, the organizers announced that his place in the main draw will be taken by French player Benjamin Bonzi.
