Cătălin Botezatu, robbed in London of a watch worth two million pounds

The fashion designer Cătălin Botezatu was allegedly robbed in London last week, missing an extremely rare watch, the value of which amounts to 2 million pounds, according to The Daily Mail, which informs that the police have arrested a suspect, since the tabloid does not specify whether the valuable jewel was recovered.

The theft took place on Thursday, January 29, at 23:50 local time, in Berkeley Square, in the exclusive Mayfair district of London, which is particularly targeted by thieves.

The stolen watch is a Richard Mille, from the Sapphire series, considered one of the rarest watch collections in the world, writes the News.

These beautiful watches are all carved from sapphire crystal blocks. There are four types: RM 56-02 Tourbillon, RM 56-01, RM 27-04 and RM 52-05.

They are very sought after in the world of stars. Tennis legend Rafael Nadal is known to own one, as is F1 driver Charles Leclerc. Jay Z also has a £2 million Richard Mille RM 056 Blueprint, a prototype version.

Cătălin Botezatu, aged 59, worked for Vogue and Versace, The Daily Mail mentions.

Police have caught a suspect, Younes Djoudim, 33, from Slough, Berkshire, who has been charged with theft and was remanded in custody on Saturday by a Westminster Magistrates’ Court order.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said that at 00:14 local time on Friday, officers responded to calls reporting a robbery in Berkeley Square, Mayfair. The police went to the scene and spoke with the victim, a 59-year-old man. Later that day, a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Djoudi’s next appearance is scheduled for Friday, February 27, at Southwark Crown Court.

Botezatu founded his own fashion brand – the Delphi fashion house – in the 1990s, opening his first boutique in his native Romania. He climbed the career ladder, getting to study and work with Italian fashion legend Gianni Versace. Now, Botezatu works with important clients from the world of showbiz, including the American singer and actress Vanessa Williams. In addition to his clothing catalog, he also creates perfumes and jewelry. In 2000, he became the first fashion designer in the world who was allowed to do a fashion photo shoot in the perimeter of ancient sites, writes the Daily Mail.
