Ciucă, after the meeting with the head of the MAE in Chisinau: the authorities professionally managed the challenges of destabilization

The President of the Senate, Nicolae Ciucă, highlighted, on Tuesday, during the meeting he had with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration from Chisinau, Mihai Popşoi, that the Republic of Moldova succeeded in obtaining historic decisions regarding the European agenda.

Nicolae Ciucă appreciated the fact that the first official foreign visit of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, was carried out in Bucharest, “expressing his desire to continue the special dialogue between Romania and the Republic of Moldova”emphasizing that the Moldovan official contributed significantly from the position previously occupied, that of the first vice-president of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, to the deepening of this approach, according to a statement of the Senate.

In the last two years, the Republic of Moldova, strongly supported by Romania, managed to obtain historic decisions regarding the European agenda: on June 23-24, 2022, the European Council adopted the decision by which the Republic of Moldova was granted the status of a candidate state for EU accession , and on December 14, 2023, the EU institution decided to open accession negotiations.

“Together, in the last two years, we have succeeded in obtaining historic decisions regarding the European agenda, and I trust that the Romanian MEPs will continue to be extremely vocal in supporting the government in Chisinau on a European level“, added Ciuca.

According to the cited source, the President of the Senate thus expressed his conviction that the Romanian parliamentarians will continue to be extremely convincing and engaged in supporting the Republic of Moldova, the immediate objectives, at this stage, being the preparation of the ground for the official launch of accession negotiations and the organization of the first Conference Intergovernmental, as well as actively maintaining the theme of the Republic of Moldova on the EU agenda.

In the context of the war in Ukraine, the authorities in Chisinau professionally managed the many challenges to destabilize the state, and I assured the minister that the security of the Republic of Moldova remains a priority for Romania. During February 5-6, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, paid a working visit to Bucharest at the invitation of the head of Romanian diplomacy, Luminița Odobescu. During the visit, Minister Popșoi had meetings with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, the President of the Senate, Nicolae Ciucă and the President of the Commission for Foreign Policy, Senate of Romania, Titus Corlățean.
