The President of the Senate, Nicolae Ciucă and the Minister of the Interior, Cătălin Predoiu, had separate meetings in Austria with the Austrian Chancellor, Karl Nehammer and the Federal Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Austria, Gerhard Karner.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu, had a working meeting, in Vienna, with the Federal Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Austria, Gerhard Karner.
The two ministers addressed the main point of the meeting, i.e. they discussed the next important meeting for the Schengen file, which will take place between the Ministers of the Interior, on November 21-22, in Budapest.
The discussions revealed the contribution of Romania and Austria in ensuring the security of the external borders of the EU, in combating illegal migration and cross-border crime, including the external dimension component, for a preventive approach.

“Minister Predoiu emphasized that the Decision on Air and Maritime Schengen was impeccably implemented, without any syncopation. Romania, through the MAI, respectively the Border Police, has substantially reduced the level of illegal migration at the national borders. Also, all aspects agreed bilaterally with Austria are applied with very good results. Minister Predoiu reaffirmed Romania’s commitment to maintain, in the future, safe and efficient border management practices, to apply all Schengen procedures and to contribute significantly to the EU’s efforts to combat cross-border crime as effectively as possible”according to a press release from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
At the same time, the leader of the PNL, Nicolae Ciucă, president of the Senate, met, on Monday, in Vienna, with the Austrian chancellor, Karl Nehammer, with whom he discussed Romania’s accession to Schengen.
“I met today in Vienna with Chancellor Karl Nehammer. Our main topic of discussion was Romania’s accession to the Schengen area. I am confident that the final decisions will be taken soon at the technical level.” wrote Ciucă on the X platform.
