FinanceBuzz, a website that provides advice and recommendations that can help you make financial decisions, takes into account the number of gates at opposite ends of terminals, the distances to the farthest gates in an airport and the need for transport to people to reach their gate.

Denver International Airport ranked first, where the time it takes to walk from one gate to another is 34 minutes, according to the data.

Both Queens airports — LaGuardia and JFK — ranked fifth and sixth, respectively. LaGuardia was awarded this seat due to its 39-minute travel time between two boarding gates. JFK was also included in the ranking because of the 17-minute walk between security and the farthest gate.

Although not on FinanceBuzz's list, Newark Airport has consistently been rated as one of the worst in the country, if not the worst, when it comes to layovers and other stressors.

In the case of LAX airport in Los Angeles, the ninth worst, people have to walk almost an hour to get from one boarding gate to another.

Here's what the top looks like:

  • Denver International Airport
  • Chicago O'Hare International Airport
  • “John Wayne” from Santa Ana, California
  • Austin-Bergstrom International Airport
  • Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport

On the other hand, Richmond International Airport in Virginia was ranked as the best airport in the country for connecting flights, as there is only eight minutes difference between two boarding gates.

Not far behind, Washington DC's Ronald Reagan Airport ranked 10th, with a time of just 18 minutes.

Bradley International Airport in Hartford was ranked fifth because it takes just three minutes to get through its largest terminal.
