Crin Antonescu stated on Tuesday, May 5, that Ilie Bolojan became one of the most powerful politicians of the moment, following the adoption of the censure motion against the Government.
Crin Antonescu appreciated that Ilie Bolojan emerged strengthened from the current political crisis, becoming, in his opinion, a central figure in the current political landscape.
“Ilie Bolojan was a modest prime minister, to be elegant, but he has become an extremely powerful political figure at this moment, perhaps the most powerful on the scene”said Antonescu, on Antena 3.
At the same time, the former liberal leader issued a warning about the situation in the PNL, suggesting that the formation could enter a stage of major internal tensions.
“It could lead to regrettable things, maybe even a break. It’s time for some clarifications to happen in the PNL as well. Genuine conservatives can’t coexist there indefinitely with progressives, neo-Marxists and Vlad Gheorghe. There can’t be people who fought Traian Băsescu’s abuses and some who still consider them a model to follow. Someone, and I believe that the people and the means will be found in the party, will have to say: this way or so”Antonescu also said.
The censure motion submitted by PSD and AUR was adopted on Tuesday with 281 votes “for”, out of 288 MPs present. Only four votes were against, and three were overturned.
Thus, the government led by Ilie Bolojan was dismissed. However, the current cabinet will remain at Victoria Palace in an interim capacity until a new government is installed to ensure the day-to-day affairs of the state.
During all this time, President Nicușor Dan will convene the parliamentary parties at the Cotroceni Palace for consultations in order to appoint a candidate for the position of prime minister.
