Iuliu Mureșan, the president of CFR Cluj, sounded the alarm about the club’s financial situation, explaining that the group’s participation in European competitions is currently in question.
The Transylvanian official stated that the team from Gruia must pay a significant part of the debts by January 15, in order to obtain the UEFA license.
Although the club is to receive approximately 7 million euros from the transfer of Louis Munteanu, the sum will not reach the CFR’s accounts in full and immediately, but will be paid in several installments. Even if DC United has already transferred part of the money, the financial problems are still not solved, and the management is forced to continue the sales policy.
In this mercato period, CFR Cluj has already parted with two important players, Lindon Emerllahu and Louis Munteanu. The club continues to face delays in the payment of salaries, and the level of debts endangers the presence of the team in the European cups.
“It’s 7 million euros for Louis Munteanu. The contract is made in euros, not in dollars. We have some bonuses that will be added based on performance. We still need to sell, there are problems that we inherited and I trust that we will solve them in a month or two!”admitted the president of CFR Cluj.
CFR Cluj has been under UEFA supervision for a long time
The accumulation of debts may result in a temporary suspension from the European cups for the team from Gruia. Over the years, the club controlled by Ioan Varga managed to avoid such a sanction at the last moment, but the risk remains a real one.
However, Mureșan emphasized that the license for League 1 is not affected and there is no risk that the team will be excluded from the domestic competition.
“There are salary arrears. With the money that will come in in January, we will close many chapters, but not all. The payment for Louis is staggered. But there are possibilities to take the money before the deadline, but we have to give up a percentage of 5%. We can enable this option. If we don’t make certain payments by January 15, we risk not getting the UEFA license, because we are being monitored.
The license for League 1 is not in danger, if we manage to pay the debts by January 15th, we can also get the UEFA license. We are in discussions on several fronts, to see what money we can attract, both from Louis and from certain sponsors!“Iuliu Mureșan also declared, according to digisport.ro.
