Journalist Cristian Tudor Popescu commented on Facebook the recent events in Venezuela, following the capture of President Nicolás Maduro by American forces, and made a series of observations about the geopolitical implications of the action.
Popescu began with a harsh description of the Venezuelan leader:
“Maduro was a dictator, a scoundrel, a criminal and a drug dealer. What happens to him is what he deserves.” wrote the journalist.
Regarding the American president Donald Trump, Popescu emphasized that he gave up the idea of receiving the Nobel Peace Prize and turned the military operation into a true business show and spectacle.
“He sold the special military operation very well. The governments of the world admire or envy the American performance. Then he simply took over Venezuela, turning it into his personal business. The US will govern it and exploit its resources, primarily oil, which it will sell to interested countries, according to the Trump tariff.” explained Popescu.
The reporter also detailed Trump’s broader vision for American foreign policy: “Trump’s slogan, Make America Great Again, is changing: Make America Great! That’s it. The king wants the US to control, one way or another, South America, Central America, including Mexico, Canada and Greenland. The next target will probably be Cuba, very suitable for a Venezuela scenario; then Panama. This is the Great Plan”.
In terms of international relations, Popescu claims that Trump will maintain the relationship with Vladimir Putin, despite the Kremlin’s pro-Maduro position, and suggested that a similar gesture would have been made to Xi Jinping: “The relationship with Putin will be preserved, despite the Kremlin’s pro-Maduro statements. Trump will have no qualms about continuing to play the dove of peace in Ukraine. Something tells me that although Trump did not inform the US Congress about the operation, another dove flew to Xi Jinping. With what consequences, we will see”.
CTP considers the day of the operation to be a historic turning point.
“Moreover, the historical character of this day lies in the end of an era that also began in America 250 years ago, which I would call the Humanist Age and the beginning of what will be the Nuclear Stone Age,” the journalist also wrote.
In conclusion, he raises critical and ironic questions about the reactions of governments, including Romania.
“Have you heard any reaction from the Romanian leadership, Foreign Minister, President? And what would you say about a special Russian operation in Hungary, through which Orban, who is in decline, will be kept in power?”, CTP added.
