Dan Petrescu, the former CFR Cluj team technician, is close to a new professional adventure in China.
According to Ioan Becali’s statements, the coach could take over a team from the first Chinese league during the winter period. The manager stated that Petrescu feels much better physically, and this allows him to return to the bench and clap with the new club in the coming months.
“I know he’s better. Good, good, good. He’s lost, not as speculated, 30 kilos. He’s lost, but he’s good. He’s waiting for an offer, he might go to China for a big sum, two or three million a year. That I know. With a boy he’s been with before and I know. In the first league. He still has a name there, doesn’t he? Now in the winter, if not in the summer. He’s almost rebuilt one hundred percent. Now he’s waiting for his chance.
“He still has some money to take from Cluj!”
You realize (not that he would also like to return to the technical bench), if he sat out, if what happened in Cluj happened. Do you think he likes what happened in Cluj? He also has some money to take from Cluj, wait, no problem, he will give it to him. If he stayed there for 6-7 years, still with delays, but in the end the money was given, right?
Nowhere in the world, and we have had players in Turkey, here and there, who have been late, immediately at the first referral to FIFA they give you the money!“said Ioan Becali, according to fanatik.ro.
The international experience of Dan Petrescu
A possible move of Dan Petrescu to China would not be a novelty in his career. The Romanian technician had two more mandates in Chinese football, at JS Suning and GZ Hengfeng, already accumulating experience in this championship. Since August 2025, after breaking up with CFR Cluj, Petrescu is without a contract, during which he had to deal with some medical problems.
His track record includes numerous teams outside Romania, including Wisla Krakow, Kuban Krasnodar, Dinamo Moscow, Al-Arabi, Al-Nasr, Kayserispor and Jeonbuk Hyundai. In domestic competitions, Dan Petrescu sat on the bench for Sportul Studențesc, Rapid, Unirea Urziceni, ASA Târgu Mureș and CFR Cluj, a club with which he collaborated in four different periods.
